We want your stories

We’re after your stories…short or long…have your voice heard..

WE WANT YOUR STORY.

Have you ever left a medical appointment feeling unheard?

Have you been told it was “just anxiety”, “just stress”, “all in your head”, or made to feel as though your symptoms weren’t real?

Perhaps you experienced a delayed diagnosis, medical misogyny, or spent years fighting to be believed.

Or maybe someone you love did.

As part of HYSTERIA: Women, Mental Health & Identity, we are creating a book of lived experiences that will form part of the exhibition in April 2027.

The book will be available for visitors to read during the exhibition and online afterwards, creating a lasting archive of the voices that so often go unheard.

This isn’t about naming or shaming individual healthcare professionals or organisations. Please keep all hospitals, services and staff anonymous.

It is about shining a light on experiences that are too often dismissed, creating understanding, and helping ensure fewer women have to endure the same.

If you would like to contribute your story, no matter how long or short, we would be honoured to include it.

Because stories change conversations. And conversations change lives

.

HYSTERIA is an art exhibition launching soon, which explores the historical and ongoing treatment of women’s mental and physical health, identity, neurodivergence, trauma, and medical misogyny. This exhibition was conceived following a deeply personal family experience spanning three generations of women impacted by misdiagnosis, institutionalisation, stigma, and the long shadow of “hysteria” — a term once used to dismiss and pathologise women whose symptoms, emotions, or behaviours medical institutions failed to understand.
